Sologistics Spotlight: Juanita Watkis, Solar Project Coordinator

Welcome to Sologistics Spotlight, an inside look at and celebration of the Sologistics team! This spotlight is on Juanita, our amazing project coordinator!

Sologistics Experience

Juanita has been an integral part of the Sologistics team for 2 years. Juanita enjoys and appreciates working on a close-knit team of knowledgeable solar professionals that continue to learn and expand their expertise together. She values the team culture and the ability to work from home. As Project Coordinator, Juanita liaises between Sologistics management, clients, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). She supports the clerical needs of management, prepares paperwork, files with the AHJs, and follows up with the DOB. She serves as the primary point of contact with clients and ensures smooth communication within the team. In her role, Juanita oversees projects services and coordinates with all relevant parties to start, move forward, and complete projects.

Juanita is a highly valued member of the Sologistics team. On working with Juanita, Project Manager Kimoya Francis says, “Juanita joined the Sologistics team with a wealth of knowledge about navigating through the processes and red tape of the solar industry in NYC, NYS and the tristate area. Her know-how and willingness to learn from her colleagues have made her a strong asset to the Sologistics team from the very beginning.” Design and Engineering Specialist Matt Mathosian shares, "Juanita has an amazing work ethic. She is always on top of our client's needs and delivers outstanding service with her deep knowledge of Department of Building filing requirements. She is an asset to ensure that our client's projects progress smoothly and in a timely manner." In the experience of delivery team manager Ryan Schevis, “Juanita is a top performer when it comes to getting it done.  Her industry knowledge is unparalleled and she continues to demonstrate a strong affinity for multi-tasking many client projects simultaneously.” As voiced by her colleagues, it is clear that Juanita is a highly valued member of the Sologistics team.

Background in Solar

Juanita has a degree in Mathematics and Computer Science. She is currently seeking certification as an NYC DOB filing representative. When Juanita started her first job in solar 6 years ago, she was energized by the challenge of learning all about the solar industry.  She committed herself to gain industry knowledge through extensive research, discovered a passion for solar, and has worked in solar ever since. For those interested in learning more about solar, Juanita recommends staying educated and up to date on changes in industry policy, regulations, and practices.  As an emerging industry, local policies that impact solar and energy storage development continue to change frequently. As a result, a challenge of the job is staying up to date with all the DOB, utility, fire code, and other regulatory changes. Through her work in NYC, Juanita has witnessed significant growth and increased demand for solar energy over the last few years.

Values-Based Culture

Out of the ten Sologistics guiding principles, Juanita most appreciates principle #10: We embrace that a key part of each of our jobs is to help our colleagues to be more successful in their jobs. Juanita experiences that being a part of a close and supportive team allows everyone to support each other and expand their solar knowledge together.  Juanita is always eager to continue learning about the different aspects of solar and new industry developments and sharing this knowledge with her colleagues. It is a pleasure for her to be a part of such a supportive team. At Sologistics, it is important that our individual success contributes to our collective success and that we support each other in realizing our shared vision collectively.

Additional Fun

Outside of work, Juanita loves to read and educate herself about new developments in technology and science. If she could be any apex animal, she would be a whale because they are quiet, independent, and also fierce when need be. Juanita’s song for the Sologistics soundtrack is Eye of Tiger by Survivor.
